Hi Data Geek.
This week I wanted to share an amazing milestone reached by Waymo, the Alphabet-backed robotaxi company:
We’re building a safer future one ride at a time, and I’m thrilled to share that we've just surpassed 100k paid trips per week! Congratulations to the entire @Waymo team on this incredible milestone, and thank you to our riders who make this journey possible.

So, from my perspective, it’s a perfect time to be part of the company. There are 65 open roles on the Careers website but my favorite ones are these ones:
- Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Runtime & Optimization
- Software Engineer, Foundation Model Data Infra
- Software Engineer, ML and Data Infra
The pay range I see for these roles is from $158,000 to $243,000 per year, but take this opportunity not just for the money, but as a learning opportunity.
Waymo is building The World’s Most Experienced Driver and this is a not small task ahead. So, if I could have the opportunity, I would join right away.
That’s the conviction I feel with this company.
Tech Stack
- Reading some of the job ads, I see a lot of C++ everywhere. So, even if you are a Pythonista right now (generally), I encourage you to see some good stuff related to C++ like the Google Style for C++
- Apache Beam and Apache Spark
- GPU/TPU code writing and optimization
- RAGs
- Google Cloud Platform
Again, take this opportunity as an amazing learning spot for you, and build some of the most challenging systems alive today.
And of course: don’t forget to check out its Research page. If you can: play with the Waymo Open Dataset.
This could give you some ideas to work with in your job application.
Good luck on the application.
